In the U.S., mental illness is a serious problem within the prison system. Many facilities in the country that help those with mental illness have ultimately shut down, which has led to an increase intake of mentally ill persons in jails and prisons. The prison systems in the US are overpopulated as it is. Adding mentally ill persons to overcrowded jails and prisons is a recipe for disaster. Research has shown that there isnt an adequate number of trained professionals who can deal with the mentally ill in the prison system. The few professionals who do treat mentally ill individuals in a prison setting often find it to be difficult. It is difficult because their client(s) are still prisoners. There are underlying issues of control of a prisoner (A person who is viewed as someone who has done something wrong to be imprisoned) and a client who needs mental health services in order to get better. In the U.S prison system those with mental illness arent treated properly. In the prison system many prisoners go through harsh punishments. For example, excessive solitary confinement is used as a punishment in the United States. Solitary confinement is when a person is isolating the cell for 20 to 24 hours a day. Prisoners who are confined or treated worse than those in general population. They are given scraps of food and only shower twice a week if the guard allows it. (Nation, 2017). Those in solitary lose all privileges. They arent able to participate in general population activities or receive phone calls or visits. Solitary confinement has been used on men, women and juveniles alike. Recently solitary confinement for juveniles has been banned (Nation, 2017). Solitary when used excessively can be seen as cruel and unusual punishment which its use for juveniles was banned. The excessive use of solitary confinement can cause a sane person to develop mental illness (FUSION, 2015) . Norway however, has an increased number of mental health professionals and funding. It offers accessible mental health care to children as well as adults. In Norway there is training provided to professionals to treat anxiety and depression. These disorders are very common and by treating them early Norways is able to eliminate issues such as absence from work, disability and unemployment. Norway has a total of 46 adult prisons. At the time they did not imprison juveniles. They have both open and closed prisons. On the island prisoners are able to get an education and receive vocational courses. They have the ability to harness their skills and use them. They arent treated like animals, the ratio of guards to prisoner is very low. There are only four guards to one hundred and fifteen prisoners. There arent even any weapons like guns on this island. Prisoners are actually treated like human beings and are better for it. Norways prison system is very different from the United States prison system. Norways open-prison system allows them in some cases to be able to vote. Politicians often even the prison and deliver speeches. Norway allows its prisoners to become rehabilitated citizens and help them receive housing and jobs before they come out. The United States it is much different. Prisoners arent treated well and there are recordings of guards hurting inmates. There are also lawsuits being pressed against officers for misconduct. Prisoners in the United States are treated like caged animals and arent given a chance. Prisons in the U.S arent able to treat the amount of patients that suffer from mental illness. There arent many professionals trained to help all of them. It is hard for one person to treat hundreds, or thousands even. The prison systems here dont provide all the adequate resources that Norway does to allow our prisoners to become rehabilitated citizens. The united states could stand to learn a lot from Norway. If even a fraction of Norways humanity and treatment of prisoners was present in the United States prison system, it would have a better outcome. When you treat someone like a person regardless of their crime you are instilling good faith into them. Norway has open prisons with a bare minimum level of security, yet no one tries to escape. The prisoners and guards alike have a mutual understanding that they are going to receive actual help that will assist them in their journey to become good neighbors. The prison systems in the U.S. can benefit from more mental health professionals and extensive training for all of those who are dealing with inmates. More programs for the inmates would be helpful as well, prior to release. The U.S. has this twisted mindset that caging a person for so long then releasing them will have no side effects or backfire. I believe the problems that they face is in my community is that they are not respected enough or just people do not know who they are and what they are going through. I say people in my community do not notice their existence enough. Or just they dont want to help that someone in need. I understand they dont have too but I believe that its more respectable, I dont know thats just me. The people we are okay not the best and not the worst but were okay. We just need to help out others in need more often I believe so. Do you always try to help people who are disabled? I always try to help people who are disabled as much as I can. If I know what type of disability they have I can probably be more helpful. But there is sometimes where I dont know whats going on and I cant be much of help. I understand there is times where you just have to let them be and do their own thing until they are done. I tend to help as much as I can and base on what i can do too. How do you think people disabled in accidents come to terms with their new disability? I believe that they somewhat go into depression because they cant do what they use to do because of that disability. I think they worry about what others will say well not really. Well I cant really know until you actually go through a type accident like that. I think some would just say to themselves life goes on . I cant really understand what would the terms turn to be. I think its just a big shock that turns the tables with your life. And you just dont know what happens with your life. What daily problems do you think someone who uses a wheelchair may face each day? I think they go through a lot just to begin the day. Such as waking up and use the restroom you have jump from your bed to your wheelchair and jump to the toilet seat. Or putting on clothes for school or the day you have yourself into your clothes or call someone for help. Then just rolling to the car as well jumping inside the car to the seat or have that special type of car that makes it easier I guess. Someone always have to help you in the morning routine. Then during the day imagine going through a crowd of kids in the school and no one moves out the way so youre just there getting upset about it. Theres just so many problems I believe they have to deal with on the daily. And I didnt even describe a full day for them. Which makes me feel bad about the people in wheelchairs at this moment. Do you tend to think that disabled people always need your help? I believe some disabled people would need my help not all because I know some had overcome their obstacle and are able to do it themselves. I think sometimes if you help them without asking you would just make them upset because maybe they were confident enough to handle it until you came in to help. Some disabled people would be mad because they would say I didnt need you to help me it would break their confidence I believe. Like if we pity them or something some disabled people think like that. I dont know its just me but ive seen it around.

In my opinion the manner in which the issue of gun control is approached in this country is bordering on criminal negligence in and of itself. The insanity surrounding this controversial issue is taking the Second Amendment to the Bill of Rights in the United States constitution way too far. I ask myself this question, could the Founding Fathers of this amazing country have possibly envisioned a world in which teenagers could casually walk into a classroom, pull out a loaded pistol and cold bloodily murder their teachers and fellow classmates? I think not. I would posit that these fine men, these symbols of American liberty and democracy, would turn in their graves if they could see how their words, their intentions, were manipulated and grossly misinterpreted, to serve the purposes of those who pretend to be protecting the rights of their fellow American Citizens. On the contrary, it is my belief that they, the politicians, are recklessly endangering those whose rights they claim to be protecting. The Government needs to take a hard, honest look at the tragic loss of life that occurs in this country due to gang shootings, both intentional and accidental. The government needs to assume responsibility for this outrageous situation and realize that gun control in the United States needs to be federally regulated, sooner rather than later. Wherein lies the difficulty in subjecting citizens to more stringent gun control measures? What possible reasons could politicians have for opposing safety measures such as the mandatory registration of firearms, five days waiting periods, gun licensing for owners, permits to purchase and permits to carry guns as well as mandatory background checks? If you want to carry a firearm, I feel that all of the aforementioned requirements, at the very least, should be instituted in every single state. For heaven's sake, it is more difficult to enroll your child in school than it is to buy and own a gun in this country. Does that seem logical? Not to me. The reason being that as this controversy plays out, as the NRA (National Rifle Association), the various politicians and the many interest groups squabble aimlessly back and forth with each other, and more innocent people are losing their lives every day. Sure, some will argue that the majority of gun owners in this country are responsible citizens who have every right to own a gun to protect their families, their property and all that they have worked so hard for. Do you know what I say to that? Absolutely! I have no desire to have a person's right to protect themselves infringed upon, I would simply argue that stringent guidelines would be followed to ensure that that person was who they said they were, did not have a criminal record etc. before they were handed a weapon that could potentially result in a serious loss of life. If any citizen has an issue with a five day waiting period for instance, I would hazard a guess that their intentions for the use of that weapon are probably not the best. I would think that any responsible citizen, with nothing to hide would welcome proper gun control measures, as limiting the number of guns on the streets will ultimately reduce the risk that responsible citizens will ever need to use their w eapons in self-defense. Kids are taught at school that Lebanons capital Beirut was buried 9 times because of these catastrophic events. However, other than manmade disasters, modern situation has been calm and this small Mediterranean country has been tsunami free for quite some time. Unfortunately studies show that this situation will not remain as calm in the future and that the Lebanese coast is in danger of re-experiencing these waves. In this paper the historic Tsunami activity around the world will be reviewed and evidence shall be given on why this event will strike Lebanon after 1500 years of absence. In addition, the behaviors and characteristics of tsunamis will be presented, how they start and how they destroy and by knowing the effects they have on buildings and the damages they cause to their elements, we are able to design a structure with the purpose of resisting these loads. The aim of this study is to design a Tsunami Resisting Structure in accordance with the current guidelines and complying with the existing Standards and Codes, that is expected to provide safe refugee from Tsunami and earthquakes. Structural system A basic concept design of a Tsunami/Earthquake proof structure follows a number of consideration and guidelines. After observing past events, we can conclude that the major element that contributes to the survival of houses was the material used. While most small residences in Australia are timber and lightweight systems or even brick veneer and load bearing wall system, the most robust model that can resist important horizontal or vertical loads is reinforced concrete and or Steel structures. Multistory building are heavier and thus can prevent sliding when horizontal action is applied and because above levels are not submerged they aid to resist lateral loads. Another key component is Orientation, when buildings are constructed in a direction parallel to the ocean, the wave will have a greater surface of contact, and therefore the lateral force will hit the plan faà §ade with the lowest inertia. In the weeks following, this clichà © would seem prophetic. It would not, however, be accurate today. It was September 1st, and I was officially a college freshman. All my dreams were to be realized. The halls would be paved with intellectuals, and the walls would be plastered with philosophers. State College was my Ellis Island. It would be a far cry from my high school, whose halls were paved with punks and whose walls were plastered with simpletons. The entire student body would be eager to debate and discuss the Bible, politics, philosophy — everything that I love to talk about. â€Å"State College is Plato’s academy reincarnated,† I thought to myself as I kicked and hopped my way into my left pant leg. No one could convince me otherwise. All of these things were true. They had to be: this is colle ge. No nervous stomach, no second thoughts — just an anxious heart. By 10 p.m. on August 31st, I was in bed. â€Å"You are going to be ready on Wednesday,† I said to myself. Granted, my first class did not start until eleven, and I had not gone to sleep earlier than two in the morning all summer. But I felt as if I had to be in bed by ten. Time always seems to be the tortoise when you want it to be the hare. That was one of the many thoughts taking refuge in my mind as the clock ticked past 11:59 p.m. As the first hour began, I lay motionless on my bed of rocks. During this time, I became eerily familiar with my new ceiling. Its flawed construction, rippled paint, and simple off-white hue comforted me. These otherwise unnoticeable imperfections reminded me of home. Earlier that month, I exclaimed to my mother how eager I was to escape from the penitentiary that I called home, and now I was having nostalgic thoughts about it. I laughed at the glaring irony and slowly drifted to sleep. By 10:45 a.m., I joined the procession of pupils on my way to my first college class. Uniformity among the masses seemed like one of the many luxuries that freshmen were not deemed worthy to have. (Kindness from most upper-classmen was one of the others that stood out on that day.

Disrespecting an Nco

Why I should not disrespect an NCO and the consequences I am writing this essay because I disrespected a non commissioned officer. I do apologize for what I did and have said. I have learned from my mistake and I see why I am to do this essay and that is to show that disrespecting a non commissioned officer will not be tolerated and two give clear understanding of the impact that disrespecting a Non Commissioned officer has on others.For many reasons the Non Commissioned Officers keep the moral up and motivate soldiers and encourage them to do their very best and showing disrespect to the NCO’s not only lowers moral, it also makes it to where the NCO thinks less of the person and lowers the person’s creditability. There is a possibility of Uniform Code of Military Justice (UCMJ) actions taken against the soldier. With the UCMJ the soldier could lose rank, lose pay, have to pull extra duty, getting    discharged, or even getting jail time depending on how bad or sever the violation is.It could also cause the soldier not to have a chance to exceed or grow as a soldier or a leader such as go to schools, warrior leader’s course, or even the promotion board. If the disrespect is by jumping the chain of command or the NCO support channel then it would get others in conflict. Non Commissioned Officers are literately the backbone of the military even as it says in the NCO creed. The NCO’s do countless jobs that are not totally acknowledged.Sometimes non commissioned officers help soldiers in many ways and sometimes do not require acknowledgement except to see the soldier strive to success. But the influence of disrespecting NCO’s and the consequences is something everyone should be aware of.
